Afghanistan’s fast bowler Naveen-ul-Haq was so incensed by a decision by Cricket Australia that he withdrew from the Big Bash League. Naveen-ul-Haq, who is playing for the Sydney Sixers in this season of the league, has now decided not to play in the tournament any further. Cricket Australia suddenly pulled out of the 3 ODI series against Afghanistan in March. This series was to be played in UAE in March. But, the Australian team will no longer play this series. The CA has taken this decision citing the recent ban imposed by the Taliban on the education and employment of women and girls in Afghanistan.
Afghanistan is the only full-time member country of the ICC, which does not have a women’s cricket team and no team will field from Afghanistan in the Women’s Under-19 T20 World Cup starting on Saturday. Australia was to play a Test match in Afghanistan in November 2021, but it was decided to cancel the Test after the Taliban seized power in August that year.
